Generating Web Traffic through trial and error

Web traffic is going to always be a popular topic online.  Everyday there are new people that decide to start their own website or blog and then find out that they need to learn how to generate traffic.

How can you get web traffic?  Search engines can deliver free traffic to your site.  People are searching online for information and they are using keywords.  Is the information on your website or blog properly tagged?  Keywords can be used in your blog titles and as headings in your blog posts. Doing keyword research might give you leg up on the competition.

Getting people to stop by your website can occur in a number of different ways.  Someone could directly type in your domain name into the web browser.  This would mean that they already knew your web address.  This could happen a number of different ways.

Offline marketing could be your secret.  There are lots of people that you may be missing that are not currently online.  Sure they might have internet access, but they might not be super users that are online all day.  Connecting with people in the real world through offline marketing might be your secret web traffic generation source.   Maybe they saw your web address in an offline marketing piece like a flyer or a business card.  They might also have found your site as a result of being on another popular website.  Blogs frequently post links to other sites that they follow called a blog roll.  If people like your information, they might include your url in their site.

Article marketing is another popular way to generate free web traffic.  Create information and get it posted into directories where people can go to get content for their newsletters and ezines for free.  Coming up with content on a consistent basis is no easy task. Ezine and newsletter owners might be in desperate need for something new to give to their audience.  Article directory content might be just what the doctor ordered.  Your content could be in the face of many viewers without you having to spend a penny out of your pocket.  Article directories usually allow you to place a link to your site in a bio or profile area.  If people enjoy your information, they might want to visit your site to learn more.

Email marketing another topic that deserves discussion.  Do you have an email account?  Do you check it everyday?  There are numerous newsletters that cover all kinds of niche topics.  If you don't have a newsletter, you might want to consider starting one.  The real benefit of a newsletter or mailing list is that you can have a direct line of communication with your subscribers.  You don't have to be worried about getting internet traffic.  You have an automatic audience.  Growing your email list gives you an opportunity to share high quality information and include offers that are beneficial for your audience.

Generating web traffic with free methods might not give you the immediate results that you are seeking.  If you are not afraid to crack open your wallet, you could always go the paid traffic route.  With pay per click advertising, you are going directly to the search engines and buying web visitors.  There are different types of paid traffic models.  CPC, CPV, PPV are some letters that you will come to understand.  You can always start off with a small test to see if it is something that you want to pursue.  Some companies will even give you money for opening up an account and testing the service.

Generating web traffic is something that most people online are interested in.  The web traffic landscape is always changing.  Search engines are trying to deliver the best search results possible and as a result things are always changing.  You have to find out what works best for you through trial and error.
